New Administrator Certification Exam

The SCA in SUSE Rancher 2.6 exam has been released and is now available to schedule. The SUSE Certified Administrator (SCA) in SUSE Rancher 2.6 certification is designed for administrators who have an understanding of the architecture and components of SUSE Rancher. It also requires knowledge of Kubernetes multi-cluster management with SUSE Rancher.

This certification demonstrates fundamental knowledge of the components of SUSE Rancher as well as processes for registering, provisioning, configuring, and backup/restore of Kubernetes clusters using SUSE Rancher.

In addition, it demonstrates an understanding of application and workflow management on downstream clusters.  

Anyone that previously passed the SUSE exam (sca_ran2_5) for SCA in SUSE Rancher 2.5 will automatically be awarded the SCA in SUSE Rancher 2.6 certification and does not need to take this 2.6 exam.

New Deployment Certification Program

We are pleased to introduce the new SUSE Certified Deployment Specialist (SCDS) program. This new certification program provides certification for those specialists who are involved in product deployment. Our existing programs, SCA and SCE, are focused on the administration and usage of our products. We recognized a growing need for certification in the area of product deployment. Over the past 18 months we have developed and published training courses covering deployment skills and now are able to release the supporting certification program and exams to complete this offering. 

The following two deployment exams are the first in this new program: 

  • The SUSE Certified Deployment Specialist (SCDS) in SUSE Manager 4 is designed for those Infrastructure Architects, Senior Linux Administrators, and Consultants responsible for the deployment and configuration of the various architectural components of a SUSE Manager version 4.x system. This certification demonstrates knowledge of the installation and post-installation configuration process, for SUSE Manager Servers and SUSE Manager Proxy Servers. Attaining this certification also demonstrates a detailed understanding of the various methods that can be used to on-board target servers as managed Salt Minions; as well as understanding how to provide a well-managed and controlled approach, to system patching and system updating.  
  • The SUSE Certified Deployment Specialist (SCDS) in SUSE Rancher and Kubernetes Distributions is designed for DevOps and Deployment Engineers and System Administrators. This certification demonstrates knowledge of how to deploy Kubernetes clusters with RKE, RKE2 and K3S, both from the command line and from SUSE Rancher. This certification also demonstrates knowledge of how to deploy SUSE Rancher on Kubernetes. In addition, it includes an understanding of backing up and restoring RKE and RKE2 clusters from the command line and backing up RKE with SUSE Rancher.

eLearning Courses

There are eLearning courses or modules available to help prepare for each of the above newly released exams. 

  • RAN201v2.6 SUSE Rancher 2.6 Operations prepares students for the SCA in SUSE Rancher 2.6 exam.  The course begins with an introduction to SUSE Rancher and its architecture. Students will then learn how to access SUSE Rancher’s updated graphical user interface. During the course an existing Kubernetes cluster will be registered and a new RKE cluster will be provisioned with SUSE Rancher and Kubernetes cluster administrative activities will be introduced. The course also covers Kubernetes cluster management and hosted Kubernetes provider’s deployments in the public clouds. The course includes presentations about the provisioning and administration capabilities of SUSE Rancher. 
  • SMGR211v4 SUSE Manager 4.x Deployment and Initial Configuration prepares students for the SCDS in SUSE Manager 4. The course will present the three-tier architecture of a SUMA System and the requirements for successfully installing these architectural components. This training will enable you to setup a functional SUMA system to begin exploring the myriad of management capabilities SUMA provides for your managed client servers. Regardless of the size of your organization, this course will get you up and running with a fully functional SUSE Manager 4.x system. 

The following eLearning modules are available to prepare you for the SCDS in SUSE Rancher and Kubernetes distributions: 

  • eRAN001 – Deploy RKE 
  • eRAN002 – Deploy RKE2 and K3s 
  • eRAN003 – Deploy SUSE Rancher 
  • eRAN004 – Deploy RKE with SUSE Rancher 
  • eRAN005 – Backup and Restore RKE and RKE2 Clusters

In Development

The SLE322v15 Using SLES for SAP Applications to Provide High Availability for S4/HANA and NetWeaver course is in the final review process and will be released shortly. 

The team is also currently working on developing introductory training for Harvester, SLE Micro, Prometheus and Grafana with SUSE Manager. When complete, the training will be available in the eLearning platform for customers, partners and employees and will consist of lecture videos and product demonstrations.   

  • The Harvester training will cover an introduction to Harvester, installation and configuration, virtualization management using Harvester, monitoring and management, and integration with SUSE Rancher. 
  • Our initial SLE Micro 5.1 training modules will be released soon covering deployment and configuration. Additional modules including transactional updates and package management, system administration using Cockpit and management tools such as Podman will be added after the initial release. 
  • The Prometheus and Grafana with SUSE Manager eLearning module will teach how to deploy and configure a monitoring solution.

Certifications

Three new certifications are currently in the beta testing process and will be released at the beginning of the new calendar year.   

  • SCA in SUSE Rancher 2.6 – The SUSE Certified Administrator (SCA) in SUSE Rancher 2.6 certification is designed for administrators who have an understanding of the architecture and components of SUSE Rancher. Course and Exam Retirement

The following courses and exams will be retired: 

  • RAN201v2.5 SUSE Rancher 2.5 Administration will be retired 31 January 2022.  It is replaced by RAN201v2.6.  The product version goes out of maintenance on 5 January 2022. 
  • The SCA in SUSE Rancher 2.5 exam will also be retired on 31 January 2022 and is replaced by the SCA in Rancher 2.6 exam.  Anyone that previously passed the SUSE exam (sca_ran2_5) for SCA in SUSE Rancher 2.5 will automatically be awarded the SCA in SUSE Rancher 2.6 certification and does not need to take this 2.6 exam. 
  • SES201v6, SES202v6, SES211v6 and SES301v6 will all be retired on 31 January when the product support for version 6 ends.

Course and Exam Retirement

Courses

CAP101, CAP111 in SUSE Cloud Application Platform will all retire on October 31, 2020. They are replaced by CAP201v2 and CAP211v2.

As a reminder, the Storage 5 courses will be retired on January 31, 2021 when support for the product also ends.

Exams

The following exams will be retired on 31 October 2020:

  • Foundational Assessment in SUSE CaaS Platform

New Exam

SCE in Enterprise Linux 15
The new SUSE Certified Engineer in Enterprise Linux 15 exam is now live and able to be scheduled. SLE301v15 SUSE Linux Enterprise 15 Administration prepares students for this practicum based exam. The exam can be scheduled at www.examslocal.com  

Exam Retirement

The SCA+ in SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 for SAP Applications exam will expire on January 15, 2020. This version of the exam is based on the SLE221 course that is now retired. There will be a new exam supporting the SLES for SAP Applications learning path. Details will be provided as soon as they are available.
